It has come to light that Vice Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin’s unmarried 17-year-old daughter is pregnant. Interestingly enough, she has opposed proposals to spend federal money on teen-pregnancy prevention programs and voted to require poor teen mothers to stay in school or lose their benefits. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s announcement Monday about her daughter Bristol was aimed at rebutting Internet rumors that Palin’s youngest son, born in April, was actually her daughter’s. Palin said her daughter intends to raise her child and marry the baby’s father, identified in news reports as Levi Johnston, 18, of Wasilla, a high school hockey player whom Bristol has dated for about one year. The baby is due in late December.
The fact that the young woman is pregnant would not be news, except that the young woman’s mother happens to be aspiring to the number two office in the land. A son or daughter is a direct reflection on the parents. Why is this so? It is the parents who are charged with instilling a sense of morality and values in a child. It is a parent’s duty to give the child the tools that he/she will need to become a productive member of society.
Sarah Palin didn’t choose for her daughter to become pregnant at 17, but neither did she or her husband give the child the tools that she needed to make the decisions. Perhaps some planned parenthood and some sexual education classes would have helped Bristol make the right choices. Unfortunately, Sarah Palin has shown herself to be opposed to these measures, stating that she opposes funding sex education programs in Alaska and here we are.
For TicosLand.com, it is no longer a thing out of the ordinary for a young lady to become pregnant. Is that good or bad? It is not for us to decide. We will leave it up to our readers in Costa Rica and around the world to give their opinions on the matter.

How thought-provoking – I’ll truly check back in on it.
