Making Heads or Tails of the McCain Clan

September 5, 2008

It may be a little difficult to make sense out of the McCain Family tree. After they appeared on stage at the Republican National Convention, people have been searching all over the web trying to determine who’s who. Well, we will try to clear it up a little.

When John McCain married Carol, his first wife, she had two sons whom he adopted: Doug, 48 and Andy 46. They had a third child together, Sidney, 41. John and Carol divorced and John married Cindy. They have had three children: Meghan, 23; Jack, 22; and Jimmy, 20. In 1993, John and Cindy McCain adopted an orphan girl from Bangladesh, Bridget, 17. In fact, Cindy adopted Bridget without telling her husband. That’s the seven children that were onstage with the McCains.

Finally, there’s Roberta McCain, the 96 year old matriarch. She is said to have a close relationship with her son. She was in attendance at the convention and looking on proudly and even boasting that he’s a “mama’s boy.”

There have also been questions about Cindy McCain. She is 54 years old. She is vastly wealthy, having inherited one of the largest beer distributorships in the country. They have a commuter marriage. He lives in Washington and she in Arizona. When the McCains married, they signed a prenuptial agreement which keeps their finances separate.

That’s a quick rundown on the McCain clan. TicosLand.com will endeavor in the weeks ahead to find out more, but those are the bare facts. We hope that this sates some of the curiosity of our readers in Costa Rica and around the world.
