Tropical Storm Hanna caused minimal damage to the Carolinas and is not moving in a north-easterly direction and is now set to soak the north east, according to the National Hurricane Center. Hanna did have enough punch to knock out power in about 10,000 homes. According to estimates, the storm killed more than 500 people in Haiti. It is likely to flood the Eastern US Seaboard in some parts as it travels north eastward. Following closely behind is Hurricane Ike, which is now a category 3 hurricane. Fortunately, the storm spared Haiti this time around.
As Ike travel’s over open ocean between Cuba and Florida, it is expected to pick up strength and hit Florida as a category 3 or 4 hurricane. Unfortunately, oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico may be at risk once again. The hurricane is being closely tracked by the National Hurricane Center to get a better idea of where it might be headed.
At TicosLand.com, we have been following these storms closely. Hanna caused a lot of damage in the Costa Rican northern province of Guanacaste. Costa Rica was not directly affected. However, as the storm passes, it draws storms from the Pacific and soaks the country. There has been much flooding and property damage but no deaths reported.
